Juliette Lewis is a business executive for a small chain of clothing stores based in Las Vegas. She is hard-working, ambitious, and enjoys her work. Juliette is also a widow with ambivalent feelings about her direction in life. She takes a short hiking vacation to get some solitude and reflect on her future. There, where she least expects it, she meets a man who seems to mesh with her in every way. Some people in her life will stop at nothing to keep them apart. Ultimately, their relationship is jeopardized by the differences in their philosophies of life. Nicholas Scott lives for his stretches of intense, fascinating work—he is a research programmer for Microsoft. He also lives for the vacations between those stretches. During one of these vacations, he meets a woman whose beauty makes him catch his breath, and whose range of interests and sense of humor complement his own to a tee. Before he can even declare his interest, she disappears. After an extensive search he finds her, and vows that nothing will come between them again. However, ironically, Nicholas' own views threaten to drive Juliette away. He must find a way to reassure Juliette of his worth—in the face of a society that thinks otherwise.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I had moments where I really liked it and hated it. This is where the real stuff comes in. Insecurties and the inconsistancies of real life were present and made this a real page turner. I have to agree at times that I thought the story could have left out some of the drama from the supporting characters and their issues.
The two main characters really needed to work on communicating more effectively especially since they had been in previous relationships that did not fill the bill. Juliette and Nicholas had a very beautiful encounter and I loved the scenic views and discriptions. I also liked that they didn't rush into a physical relationship right off. That is an adult act to wait and make sure. I was a little put off about how they didn't feel the need to share their perspective sooner and could have avoided some of the drama. The situation with Michael made me want to slap the man. That is a scary person that manipulates and lies. He was the reason for a lot of the misunderstandings and problems. Why she trusted him again was beyond me. I was very glad that both characters were independent and had great careers. I did not mind the conflicts of long distance and compromise. It was the lack of trust and adult interaction regarding things that bugged me. There is no way I would not have asked to make sure that I was not making assumptions about what I saw. Everything was very innocent and other people were allowed to metal in their business. It was made worse because they both didn't take the time to communicate well. As it would be in the real world, love can get lost in drama and assumptions. I am glad it worked out in the end and the story could have been cut earlier. there were some grammar errors and other situations that could turn some off. It was a good full length novel. I will look for this authors next book and see if there are improvements.

This was a really good story with a lot of depth as well as a romantic novel. The characters were great and not stereotypical
Beautiful love story about two people that truly loved each other. I love how the two characters eventually came together.

This is a almost more than nice leisurely walk through two people that you know will find a way to be together. It gets a bit boring with some of the details. Very little excitement here.
Really enjoyed Nicholas' and Juilette's story. Sexy without be raunchy. Enough tension to keep it interesting. Even a villain. This is the second L. Langdon book I have read and will read more as they are released.
This is my second book by this author, I enjoy the humor she adds to the characters in her stories. Vocabulary had me running to the dictornary, so it was great for me. So far I like the autjor and the style that is used in tell a story. I highly recommend this book to read.

This book was deep and though provoking. It makes a person think could you be with someone that doesn't believe in God. You sure can't change him/her but would the love you have for that person be enough to stay in that relationship. For me the answer would be no, and that is when you both parties have to compromise and that is what happen towards the end. Very good read.
I have patiently waited for the L. Langdon's sophomore effort as soon as I finished "BB and The Baller, one of my favorite go-to romances. Imagine my delight at discovering "The Zion Encounter". The premise sounded solid, it was a full length novel and the author was on my "to watch for" list. But it ended up being a major disappointment that dragged on forever.

Juliet is a hard working professional seeking a little vacation. She is going to Zion National Park for some leisurely hiking and to recharge. She meets Nicholas, a software programmer while on this vacation. The chemistry is immediate on both parts and they have a good time getting to know each other and just hanging out. There is one major issue. Juliette lives in Las Vegas. Nicholas lives in Seattle. Can these two find a way to build a relationship despite their differences and the distance?

I liked that Juliette was a professional and Nicholas was as well. Sometimes it gets tired reading about billionaire captains of industry and social workers and cops all the time. I also loved the fact that although these two were attracted to each other right away, they did not fall into bed at the drop of a hat. I get tired of reading about promiscuous couples who drop it like it's hot after knowing each other a day. They actually got to know each other. They shared each other's interests and hopes. What initially was a chance encounter with a handsome stranger (which we all have had) turned into something deeper despite the challenges that they faced. That is an ultra-romantic idea that I ate up with a spoon.

Unfortunately, the bad points weighted this book down too much for me. For an intelligent woman, Juliette sure had a ton of "too- stupid-to live" moments in this book. Sometimes, I just wanted to shake some sense into her and say, "Grown-ups talk about their issues. They don't let misunderstandings stand in the way. Grow up." Nicholas has a few issues as well, but they paled in comparison to Juliette's. Plus, it dragged on forever. I am a little verbose myself, but this was too much. "BB and the Baller" was a little too long as well, but I didn't skim that like I skimmed this one. It needed the sure hand of an editor to help pare it down. I also wasn't in love with the side story of Juliette's friends and I found some of the dialogue and situations to be unrealistic and stiff.

The premise of "The Zion Encounter" was a great idea. The characters were mostly likable and the plot was a change of pace. The execution wasn't what it could have been, but I applaud Ms. Langdon for her efforts. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me.
